It’s raining.
I hear water pattering over rooftops and against windows, gurgling along eaves and street curbs.
It reminds me that the world continues and that reality is real.
Even in this nightmare world, there is rain.
In my experience, in response to extreme stress, our minds start to disassociate from our bodies. Our brains try to numb us from the existence of the world.
From my experience, I recommend not doing this for too long. It’s always harder to come back to your loved ones when you have forded so far into that river.
Hanging onto reality is a learnable skill.
So: Listen to the rain.
It reminds you the world exists. It reminds you that time exists. For a while, the world is wrapped in a soothing gray, like a giant blanket.
It’s a good excuse to drink cocoa and tea. An excuse for comfort food. An excuse to watch movies or read books.
The rain is a friend. Rain makes crops grow. Rain fills reservoirs. Rain reminds us of life down to our bones because it is life.
In Vietnam, dragons are powerful supernatural beings of nature and luck, not symbols of violence and hoarded wealth as they are in Europe.
And in Vietnam, dragons bring the rain.
I hope you will have rain soon.
I hope the dragons of good luck and rain bless your home.
